SNL Spoofs New Orleans In New Skit [NSFW]
Saturday Night Live was a ritual for me when I was a teenager. Stars like Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Chris Farley, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Tracey Morgan, Mike Myers, Molly Shannon, Chris Rock, Chris Kattan, Jimmy Fallon, Cheri Oteri, and many more lit up the screen with side-splitting skits, awesome celebrity guests, and amazing 90s bands playing their stage.
Fast forward to the 2000s, and in my opinion, SNL lost it's way and many fans for years with sub-standard writing and comedians.
Beginning in the early 2010s the show began building up steam with a new cast of fresh faces and giving Kennan Thompson a larger roll in the show. On a side note, Thompson is the longest tenured actor with 16 years on the show; he was hired in 2003.
I watch it from time to time now (mostly on YouTube) and ran across this gem of a skit. It's about a well-traveled and obnoxious couple (James McAvoy, Heidi Gardner) talk about their time in New Orleans to a group of their friends.
It made me laugh because when I was young, prolly around 12 or 13, my family and I rode a trolley in New Orleans, and the trolley driver was doing a city tour type thing over the intercom while we were traveling to our destination. He told us that the locals pronounce New Orleans just like James and Heidi say it in the skit. Enjoy!
