President Biden Coming to Lake Charles This Thursday, May 6
Southwest Louisiana will be entertaining a special guest this Thursday, May 6. President Joe Biden will be making two stops in Louisiana on Thursday, visiting New Orleans and Lake Charles.
Governor John Bel Edwards will be joining President Biden at the Chennault Airport in Lake Charles around noon, with an expected stop at the I-10 Bridge at 1:25pm to deliver a speech about his American Jobs Plan.
The bridge itself will certainly be part of the President's conversation with Governor Edwards, considering how badly it needs to be replaced. Plus, the roads in Southwest Louisiana are currently under construction, especially in the Sulphur and Vinton areas, but more needs to be done.
Finally, the two are also expected to discuss ongoing hurricane recovery efforts for our area. Governor Edwards has requested federal recovery aid related to the two storms that devastated Southwest Louisiana in 2020.
After leaving Lake Charles, President Biden will travel to New Orleans, where he is expected to tour the Sewerage & Water Board main plant in the Carrollton neighborhood.
President Biden is crossing the country on his Getting America Back On Track Tour. He is pitching his $4 trillion dollar infrastructure plan, which includes the President laying out his American Jobs Plan.
President Biden addressed a joint session of Congress last week to launch his plan before he made plans to hit the road.
Parts of his plan include fixing or upgrading roads, bridges, ports, airports, and transit systems. He also wants to increase minimum wage and benefits.
