Louisiana's new law regarding pot possession has lowered the penalties significantly. If you're caught with less than 14 grams of pot on you, the new penalty is up to 15 days in jail, however, those caught with between 14 grams and 2.5 pounds could be looking at up to 6 months in the slammer. The new law state law also changed the maximum jail term on felony offenses from a 20-year sentence to an 8-year one.

Well, in order to comply with the new state law, the Lake Charles City Council will be voting on whether to amend the city's code regarding pot possession. It's not a done deal and it's far from a move to legalize marijuana, but the city council will vote on whether to change the local laws at it's August 5th meeting.
