Everyone looks forward to a three-day weekend, but, while we're enjoying this extra day off, let's all remember why Monday is a holiday. Let's keep in mind all the brave men and women who, not only served our country, but lost their lives in the process of serving it.

If you want to do more to honor those brave men and women, there is a special event going on in the Lake Area and you can not only attend, but volunteer to help as well.

The big event in the Lake Area takes place this Monday at the Avenue of Flags which is located at the Orange Grove Cemetery on Broad Street in Lake Charles. The memorial service starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.

Its a great, very moving event and over 950 flags donated by the families of local veterans will be on display all day. This event is also a good chance to volunteer your services as well. Volunteers are needed to help set up the flag display. If you want to be a volunteer you'll need to be at Orange Grove cemetery at 6 a.m. to help set up the flag display and return when the event is over to help take down the flags.

Let's all have a safe memorial day and remember what the day is all about.
