There has been some reorganization done at the McNeese athletic department with the promotion of some of the key staff within the department.

First, McNeese men's head basketball coach, Heath Schroyer, has been named the interim Director of Athletics. Schroyer has been the McNeese head men’s basketball coach since March 2018. The spot has been vacant since former Director of Athletics, Bruce Hemphill, who served as the A.D. for seven years, was terminated by McNeese President Daryl Burckel.

Part of Schroyer's duties will be, of course, coaching the men's basketball team as well as serving as administrative support for all 16 McNeese athletic teams.

Matt Bonnette with McNeese also told us,

Under this organizational structure, Schroyer will have overall departmental oversight and sports medicine and strength and conditioning report to him. He will work with the vice president for university advancement on athletics department fundraising efforts and continue to direct fundraising and donor relations for men’s basketball. During basketball season, Schroyer will focus on his head coaching duties.

Other changes include Tanner Stines, who currently serves as the department’s chief financial officer and game operations coordinator, will also become the administrator for football and assist with fundraising and donor relations.

Assistant athletics director, Matthew Bonnette, will serve the athletics department with communication and sports information as well as being the go-to person for other assistant sports information directors who will report to directly to Bonnette.

The next step is to get football ready for the upcoming season. We will have to see if we get to the point where fans will be allowed to head to the games to support the Pokes. Let's hope so.
