(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Sad news coming out of Leesville today as a 13-year-old teen is being accused by authorities of shooting and killing a family member.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) says the altercation took place early this morning and ended with a fatal shooting.

A Louisiana teen has been arrested for fatally shooting a family member

KPLC is reporting that VPSO received a 911 call around 12:25am this morning concerning a shooting. Deputies and emergency services responded to the call.

Upon arrival on the scene, they found a 21-year-old male with a single gunshot wound to the chest. First responders attempting lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Why did the Leesville teen shoot and kill his family member?

Detectives were able to determine in their investigation that there had been an argument between the deceased male and a 13-year-old family member. During the argument, the young teen got a pistol and shot the victim.

The 13-year-old was apprehended without any problems. He has been charged with second-degree murder and has been placed in the custody of a juvenile facility.
