Law and Order Star Jesse L. Martin Tapped to Play Marvin Gaye

Plans are underway to bring the brilliant, tortured life of Marvin Gaye to the big screen and the cast will include a bit of a Law and Order reunion.

Marvin Gaye is synonymous with Motown. He's best known for his huge string of hits for that label but, he could sing anything. He was also, next to Smokey Robinson, an important songwriter for the Detroit based label.

His shocking murder at the hands of his own father, made headlines and had people wondering what could have gone so terribly wrong. The truth is that, while Marvin Gaye was a mega talent, like most incredibly talented people, he did have a dark side.

The film of Gaye's life, "Sexual Healing", will focus on the period of Gaye's life in the 1980's. At the time, Gaye was battling drug addiction and severe depression, so don't look for a feel good success story in this one.

Slated to play Gaye is Law and Order star, Jesse L. Martin, who does have enough of a resemblance to pull it off visually.

Also form the cast of Law and Order, S. Epatha Merkerson, has been chosen to play as Gaye's mother, Alberta.
