Texas, Louisiana Walmart’s Recall Popular Water Bottles
(KMDL-FM) How many times has your healthcare professional or your mom told you that you need to drink more water? But I bet they never told you that drinking water from certain bottles could cause permanent eye damage, did they? Hence, the need for a recall at your hometown Walmart store.
Dehydration is a chronic problem here in the Gulf South. It doesn't matter whether you're negotiating traffic in downtown Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio in Texas. Or, if you're walking from your car into work in Lake Charles, Lacassine, or Lafayette in Louisiana. It's darn hot, and you need to drink more water.
The National Institute of Health has deduced that as many as 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. It's believed that this condition sparks a lot of other medical conditions and maladies. All of which could be curtailed or prevented if we only drank enough water.

Many of us have attempted to overcome our lack of hydration by carrying huge vats of water around with us. Okay, they're just oversized thermal mugs, but they are quite fashionable and all the rage. However, some of those water bottles that are so popular today could pose another serious health threat.

Which Water Bottles Are Being Recalled?
Giant retailer Walmart has issued an urgent recall on some 850,000 water bottles sold in its stores. The bottles sold under the "Ozark Trail 640 ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle" label could pose a health problem that, to be honest, none of us saw coming.
The issue with the aforementioned water bottles is this. There have been cases where the lid of the bottle can "forcefully eject" and unexpectedly strike consumers. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says the products pose "serious impact and laceration hazards".
The "explosive issue" involving the lid is most likely to happen when a consumer is attempting to open the bottle after it has stored food, carbonated beverages, or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, inside over time. These foods can prompt a buildup of pressure inside the bottles and create the force needed to forcefully eject the lid during opening.
Recalled Water Bottles Could Cause Blindness
There have been two reports of consumers suffering permanent vision loss as a result of being struck in the eye by a lid from the recalled product. These water bottles have been available at Walmart since 2017. If you have one, you're being asked to stop using it. You can contact your local Walmart store for a full refund.
The model number of the product in question is listed as 83-662. That number does not appear on the product itself but rather on the packaging. Since you probably no longer have the packaging, you should know the product's stainless steel base is silver in color. The lid is a black one piece screw on cap. The Ozark Trail logo is also embedded on the side of the bottle.
