(KTDY) - A small town in north Louisiana has announced that they are rescheduling trick-or-treating in its community due to a scheduled football game.

The Oak Grove Police Department announced trick-or-treating will not happen on Halloween night 2025 in their community, but instead will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6-8 p.m.

Halloween night (October 31st) falls on a Friday night in 2025, and there are many high school football games scheduled on this night. We anticipate that the town of Oak Grove may not be the only one to reschedule when kids can go door-to-door to ask for candy.

The Oak Grove Police Department cites homecoming festivities in their community as the reason for rescheduling. The department says that festivities at the school will stretch resources, and they do not want kids out in the community without police on the streets.

In a social media post, the police department in Oak Grove posted this statement:

“In order to ensure the safety of our children and community during Halloween activities, we will not have enough officers available to adequately monitor both events on the same night,”

If more towns or cities elect to reschedule their trick-or-treating festivities in the weeks ahead, we will announce it here and on this station's mobile app.

Until then, let the Halloween shopping begin, and remember to always put your small kids in brigght colored costumes on Halloween night so that they can be visible by motorists.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
