Technology is exceptional until you run into problems dealing with the technology. For many of us, we are on our phones constantly due to our job responsibilities.

When we are not working, you can still find most people glued to their phones to check out the latest news, lifehacks, and videos that just grab our attention.

Many parents also worry about how much time their children spend on their phones, and both iPhone and Android phones have features in place that let parents control their children's devices. Apple support has a simple process for helping parents do this. Android phones also have easy access for parents to be able to replace restrictions on their children's phones.

It can become much more difficult to decide to police ourselves. But, if you are looking to start cutting back because your browsing is cutting into the rest of your life, there is a better way to try to cut back.

Wired.com suggests the secret to making your phone less enticing is to go gray.

Why "go gray"? Tristan Harris, founder of the Center for Humane Technology says it's simple, when something is bright and shiny, we gravitate toward it. He would know he was a former Google design ethicist.

And think about everything in our daily lives. It doesn't matter whether we are in a grocery store, a clothing store, or on our phones. When we see something shiny and new, we gravitate to it! That's why marketing people help businesses sell their products.

If you go to grayscale, you will notice how less attracted you are to content like videos, news stories, and social media sites. It's a great way to be able to take a huge bite out of the time you are spending on your phone.

Now, I think most of us know already that we can reduce the brightness on our phones because that's something we have been doing for years with our televisions. But, if you're not sure how to go to grayscale, here's some advice from Wired for iPhone users:

  • Go to Settings
  • Choose Accessibility
  • Then pick Display & Text Size
  • Next, Hit Color Filters
  • Turn on the Color Filters Switch
  • Then pick Grayscale as the option
  • Once you have done this you will immediately notice the color has changed

If you have an Android 9.0 or above here is what to do to go to Grayscale:

  • Go to Quick Settings by swiping with two fingers from the top of the screen
  • Hit the Pen icon
  • Drag the Grayscale icon to the panel and you have it ready to hit when you're ready

If you don't have a Pixel or Android 9.0 or greater, you can click here for more information from wired.com on how to figure out the process for your particular phone.

You should try it out and see if it works for you. Do you find your phone less attractive because of grayscale? Be sure to let us know.
