Southwest Louisiana Students Head To Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Since 2006 the Macy's Great American Band has been one of the main highlights of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year marks the 97th anniversary famous department store's annual event. Which, begins on Manhattan's Upper West Side and ends at the flagship Macy's Herald Square on 34th Street.

HOW DO STUDENTS AUDITION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GREAT AMERICAN MARCHING BAND?

Auditions for marching in the Macy's Great American Band for musicians, dancers, color guards, and banner carriers open in January. Selections will be based upon a written online app and auditions need to be uploaded to YouTube. Keep your eyes peeled for the 2025 application process to begin on the MGAMB website. The main criterion is that participants be enrolled high school students in grades 9-12 in the coinciding school year of the parade. Students are eligible to return if they are not graduating in the same year of the parade.

New York ABC7 reports the 2024 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade fleet of floats will bring out America's favorites featuring new designs. There are seven New floats including Dora the Explorer, Wednesday Addams, and Captain Minnie stirring a new Disney Cruise ship float. There will be a total of 22 giant floats in the 2024 parade!
