With everything going on at Michigan, rumors continue to swirl that Jim Harbaugh could potentially leave the Wolverines program and head back to the NFL. With that, of course, comes the rumor mill. The rumor that is swirling now is that the Head Coach of the LSU Tigers could emerge as the candidate to take the potential open position.

It remains to be seen if Harbaugh will make the move to the NFL, but he will look to lead Michigan to its first national title since 1997. No. 1 Michigan will face No. 4 Alabama in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. Kickoff is scheduled for New Year's Day at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Michigan offered Harbaugh a contract extension of $11 million per year for 5 years. There was a stipulation, though, that Harbaugh needed to declare in writing that he would not pursue another NFL job. The extension has not been announced as signed.

Harbaugh interviewed for NFL jobs the past 2 offseasons. Fans and media members have speculated that Harbaugh could look to go back to the NFL as Michigan deals with an NCAA Notice of Allegations for recruiting violations and the ongoing NCAA investigation into sign-stealing allegations.

Local sports talk host Matt Moscona offered his thoughts on Kelly leaving LSU for a potential Michigan opening.

"If Jim Harbaugh goes back to the NFL and Michigan is open. If Michigan pursues Brian Kelly, he would leave LSU for Michigan. I am confident in saying that," Moscona said.

Kelly is 19-7 over his two seasons at LSU, including an appearance in the SEC Championship last season. The Tigers also defeated Purdue in the Citrus Bowl to end the season. LSU will face Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Jan. 1 at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
