I know it's hard when you see fresh Louisiana Gulf Shrimp. You just want to reach out and grab them and then start your fire and get to cooking. Unfortunately, a Hackberry man left one important step out of that securing shrimp for the table equation. He neglected to pay for the shrimp that he allegedly took from a boat in Cameron Parish.

The Cameron Parish Sheriff's Department says that Joseph Keith Portie Jr. is facing charges in connection with the disappearance of more than 200 pounds of shrimp from a boat that was docked in Cameron Parish on Friday.

The sheriff's news release stated that Portie, a 27-year-old resident of Hackberry, is facing charges of one count of possession of stolen things. Authorities did say that some of the shrimp thought to be pilfered by Portie had been recovered. Portie's bond has been set at $1,500.

Cameron Parish Sherrif Ron Johnson said the theft was reported on Friday and there could be more arrests made in connection with the case.
