Closing the beaches in unincorporated areas of Galveston County at the last minute, has left travelers in a lurch for the 4th of July Holiday weekend. Now the county is trying to appease these travelers, and have made some changes. These changes do not apply to the City of Galveston.

The beaches in Unincorporated Galveston County, including the Bolivar Peninsula will be closed from July 3rd, through July 5th with the following exceptions.

Daily from 7am-11am Beaches will be open to FOOT TRAFFIC ONLY

From 11am-4pm the beaches will closed.

Daily from 4pm - 8pm Beaches will be open to FOOT TRAFFIC ONLY

No vehicular traffic will be allowed on the beaches at any time. They are discouraging visitors from traveling to the Bolivar Peninsula this weekend.

This revision is really for people that have rented a beach house and are contributing to the economy. I am sure the residents that were renting their beach houses raised concerns. They do not want people just driving to the beach or the day, and swarming the beach.

The total number of cases in Galveston County has surpassed 3,000 in the county, and if you are still going make sure and wear a mask in public. The weather looks great, and it will be 10 degrees cooler there than here in East Texas.

I personally know at least 4 families that have gone, or were planning on going to the beach this weekend. Even more than have gone there in the past few weeks. People across the mid-section of the country that had trips booked all over the world, settled for a trip to Galveston. It seems like it would be filled to capacity if everyone that was going somewhere else, all went to to the beach.
