Farmer’s Almanac Predicts Houston, Texas First Frost This Fall
The Farmer's Almanac is predicting a break in the record setting summer in the Gulf Coast and when we could see our first frost.
Winters in Houston are mostly mild and sometimes downright warm. I've experienced during my life plenty of family Christmas parties wearing shorts and sweating playing basketball outside with my cousins.
There might be some science behind the possibilities of Houston seeing a frost this fall. When Will Houston Have Its First Frost?
The Farmer's Almanac is predicting that Houston could see its first frost of the fall as early as December 8 and seeing the last spring frost around February 18.
Make sure you're taking the appropriate steps to be ready for a potential frost in Houston this fall to protect your plants and animals. If you have a garden, watch this video for tips on how to get your garden frost ready.
The classification of freeze temperatures is based on their effect on plants:
- Light freeze: 29° to 32°F (-1.7° to 0°C)—tender plants are killed.
- Moderate freeze: 25° to 28°F (-3.9° to -2.2°C)—widely destructive to most vegetation.
- Severe freeze: 24°F (-4.4°C) and colder—heavy damage to most garden plants.
