Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas early this morning around the Matagorda Peninsula, about 85 miles southwest of Houston, as a Category 1 Hurricane with winds around 80 mph. Reuters is reporting that two people have been killed by the storm in Texas.
More than 2 million Texas residents are currently without power from the storm and that number is growing as Beryl moves further inland, according to a statewide outage tracker.
ABC 13 in Houston posted a water rescue of a man that had been caught in the rushing waters of the floods from Hurricane Beryl.
The man was given a flotation device and was hooked up the extension ladder of a fire truck.
It looks like the man was trying to travel in a flooded HWY 288. This is a great reminder of how not to test floods in a vehicle. Just turn around and find an alternative route. You don't know, in many cases, how deep the water is and how quickly it can rise around you putting you in danger.
The rescue crew where able to pull him to safety. A HUGE thank you goes out to all the first responders; your bravery and courage doesn't go unnoticed. These fine men and women put their lives on the line on a daily basis to keep us safe, not only in extreme weather events. They have families and loved ones too, but in the moment, their only goal is to save other humans in peril at any cost necessary.
Also, a big thank you goes out to ABC 13 Houston for capturing this moment on camera showing this heroic act as it happened.
