Elton Man Dies In Tractor/Vehicle Crash

Investigators with State Police say a 78-year-old Elton man is dead following a crash on U.S. Highway 165 in Jeff Davis Parish yesterday. Troopers say a vehicle driven by 78-year-old Eugene E. Kinkelaar of Elton unexplainably crashed into the back of a John Deere Tractor while heading northbound on the roadway.

Investigators at the scene say that Kinkelaar was properly restrained at the time of the crash however he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jeff Davis Parish Coroners office. The driver of the tractor, 24-year-old Joshua Dean Luntsford, 24, of Fenton sustained minor injuries in the incident.

State Police say Luntsford's tractor was equipped with a disk plow attachment at the time of the crash. Both vehicles were northbound on U.S. 165 at the time of the incident. Samples for toxicology tests were taken from both drivers at the scene of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
