In an effort to keep our roadways safe, the Louisiana State Police have announced they will be conducting a DWI sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Calcasieu Parish from 6:00pm to midnight this Saturday, April 24.

The checkpoint will also be checking for drivers who are not wearing their seat belts. It has understandably been quite awhile since any of our local police agencies have conducted a DWI checkpoint why with all the pandemic issues and safety protocols.

Along with the checkpoint, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) announced they are participating in the Buckle Up In Your Truck campaign that started on April 17 and ends this Saturday, April 24.

This Saturday, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and the Lake Charles City Police will also join the Louisiana State Police in the checkpoint. The CPSO part of the checkpoint will be for officers looking for people who are not wearing their seat belts in pick-up trucks and other types of vehicles.

If you are going out this weekend and plan to have a few, remember to designate a driver or take a rideshare to and from your destination and buckle up while driving or riding in the vehicle.

The joint agency effort is a partnership with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) and the campaign is funded by grant money from the LHSC. Please stay safe out there.
