The McNeese Cowboys head to Natchitoches Saturday evening to face Nothwestern State. The Cowboys are currently in a three way tie for first in the Southland Conference at 5-2, 6-3 overall. Incarnate Word and Nicholls State are also 5-2. If the Cowboys win out, they will be the SLC champions and will get the automatic playoff bid. McNeese leads the series 46-20-1 all time and have won 13 straight in the series including 6 in a row in Turpin Stadium. The Cowboys are ranked 18th in both FCS polls this week.

Once again, the McNeese defense will be facing a potent offense. NSU has the number one passing offense in the conference averaging 326 yards per game. That number also has the Demons 3rd in the FCS. 4 Demon QBs have thrown a touchdown pass. Shelton Eppler leads the team with 20 TD passes and 2046 yards. WR Jazz Ferguson is 10 yards short of the school record with 934 receiving yards, that's tops in the SLC.

While the offense continues to struggle for McNeese, linebacker B J Blunt continues to put up some impressive numbers. He is tops in the FCS with 20 tackles for loss and tied for 2nd with 11 sacks and has drawn the attention of some NFL scouts. Punter Alex Kjellston leads the conference with a 44 yard average, 7th in the FCS. McNeese has allowed just 79 yards in kickoff return yards.

Airtime is 5:00pm with kickoff at 6:00pm on 92.9 The Lake and 929thelake.com.
