The McNeese Cowboys will close out the 2016 season in Cowboy Stadium tonight against the Lamar Cardinals. Kickoff is at 6pm. The Pokes will be looking for their 12th straight winning season and will enter the game with a 5-5 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Southland Conference. The Cowboys are 178-91-7 all time in the SLC, and 200-90-5 all time in Cowboy Stadium.

James Tabary continues to rewrite the McNeese record books. He has set new single season records for pass attempts at 386 and pass completions with 231. He needs 267 yards to set a new single season yards passing record. He has completed passes to 21 different receivers including himself and an offensive lineman! The McNeese offense is averaging 440 yards per game, 305 passing and 135 rushing.

It has been a rough season for the Cardinals. Injuries have really hurt Lamar. Kade Harrington, one of the best running backs in the country, went down midway through his senior season. About 2 weeks later, the Cards lost their starting QB, Carson Earp. So LU will limp into Cowboy Stadium at 3-7 on the season and 3-5 in the conference.

This will be the 39th meeting between the 2 schools with the Cowboys holding a 25-13-1 edge in the series. McNeese won last year in Beaumont 20-14. The Cardinals won the last meeting in Lake Charles back in 2014, 27-24 on a short field goal as time expired. Both teams lost their last game, Lamar fell at home to Incarnate Word 35-28. The Cowboys had the week off after dropping a 56-43 decision at Sam Houston State 2 weeks ago.

Air time is 5 with kickoff at 6 on 929 The Lake and 929thelake.com.
