The McNeese Cowboys begin their 45th season in the Southland Conference when they host the Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks this evening. The Cowboys are the senior member of the conference and have won more championships than all other teams combined.

Both teams are 1-1 on the season with the Cowboys beating Tarleton State and losing 30-22 last week in Lafayette. The Jacks beat West Alabama 30-24 last week after dropping their opener 69-17 at Texas Tech. The Cowboys lead the series 19-14-2 and won last year's meeting 28-14 in Nacogdoches. The road team has won the last 3 meetings. SFA won 31-16 in 2014 at Cowboy Stadium.

The Pokes are lead by Ryan Ross with 195 yds rushing on 40 carries. Dylan Long has scored 4 touchdowns on the ground. James Tabary has completed 44 of 67 pass attempts for 491 yds and 1 TD. Kent Shelby has caught 11 passes for 146 yds. He has caught a pass in 16 consecutive games. The Cowboys have dominated in time of possession 40 minutes to 20 minutes per game and have turned the ball over once in 2 games.

The Lumberjacks are led by QB Zach Conque who has completed 48 passes on 96 attempts for 412 yds, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Joshawa West has picked up 119 yds on 24 carries. Clint Conque is the head coach and former assistant at Mcneese.
