Cook was born on March 18, 1972, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. According to Cook, he was "pretty quiet, pretty introverted, shy" as a child. He started acting and performing stand-up comedy in his junior year of high school, and overcame his shyness. After high school, he went to college to study graphic design as a backup plan in case his comedy career didn't work out. These days, he creates some of his album covers and all of his mech designs.
