By now, most people are familiar with Clay Higgins. To refresh your memory, he's the former St. Landry peace officer who drew a lot of attention on YouTube with his open warning to a local street gang. That's also where he earned his nickname as the Cajun John Wayne. To say that the man is very straight forward and out spoken is an understatement.

Well, if everything works out, we may soon be calling him senator or congressman Higgins. We'll find out which later today as Higgins is expected to announce that he is seeking public office.

Higgins has more than a little in common with Donald Trump in that he pretty much says what's on his mind and, make no mistake, he doesn't sugar coat his words. Like Trump, Higgins is a political outsider with no experience in holding public office.

Higgins isn't the only person making political announcements today. Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell is expected to announce a run for the Louisiana Senate. Campbell is off to a good start with with a strong endorsement from Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards.

In addition to Higgins and Campbell, Baton Rouge mayor Kip Holden is expected to announce his run for congress today. He will be seeking the 2nd Congressional District seat.
