Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Offering Mortgage/Rental Assistance
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury (CPPJ) is still offering funds to help eligible families with low incomes pay rent and several other. Its's all part of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERA.) This money can used to pay rent, overdue rent payments, utilities, home energy costs, and any other related expenses that were incurred because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mortgage payment assistance is also available through the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). Payments will be made directly to the mortgage company of eligible recipients.
Louisiana received these funds from the U.S. Department of Treasury and applicants can beginning applying on April 4, 2022 7pm. The CPPJ says they have enough funds to assist at least 35 families with COVID-19-related rental assistance. Beginning Monday, April 4, parish residents who meet the eligibility requirements below are asked to phone the Human Services Appointment Line at (337) 721-4033 and follow the prompts to schedule an appointment. Phone lines will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday to receive calls.
Once the funds are exhausted, any remaining applicants will be referred to other resources for assistance. Once appointments have been set applicants need to bring the following documents:
1) Proof of Calcasieu residency,
2) Social security card
3) A valid driver’s license or photo identification
4) Prop of household income.
