If you own a boat, no matter if it's a cabin cruiser or a canoe, boating safety is important to everyone. With that in mind,the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will host their annual Boating Safety Lagniappe Day on May 10 at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

The FREE class, set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must attend the entire class and pass an exam to receive credit.

Under state law, if you were born after Jan. 1, 1984, you are required to complete an approved boating education course to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower and must carry proof of such when operating the motorboat.
