Authorities Issue Report On Lockdown Of 3 Lake Charles Schools
Kayla Vincent, with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, released a statement regarding an incident that led to three schools in Lake Charles being locked down on Tuesday afternoon. Vicent reports a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were involved in a fight at 1:15 pm at Washington-Marion High School. Witnesses reported they heard someone say something about a gun. Vicent said two students that were fighting had been suspended earlier that day because of a previous fight. Witnesses said there was another juvenile on the scene that did not attend Washington. This person was not involved in the fight and reportedly was a former student of LaGrange High School student. That juvenile according to the authorities was reportedly in possession of brass knuckles.
Kayla Vincent told KPLC that all three juveniles fled the scene after the fight and went they left the property, Washington-Marion High School was immediately placed on lockdown. During the time the authorities were trying to locate the three individuals out of an abundance of precaution, LaGrange High School and Molo Middle School (due to proximity to Washington) were placed on lockdown too.
After a short time, LCPD was able to locate the juveniles and reported they were found near Rose Street in Lake Charles. KPLC reported Tuesday evening, that the two juveniles engaged in the fight at Washington-Marion were taken into custody. A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with unlawful disruption of the operation of a school, and disturbing the peace by fighting. A 15-year-old was also arrested on charges of unlawful disruption of the operation of a school, and carrying a dangerous weapon by a student/nonstudent on school property.
The good news according to Kayla Vincent is that the investigation revealed there was no firearm at the school. For more on this story follow the local news.
