Get the latest updates with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) weekly beach monitoring program, because a fun day at the beach could easily turn into a bad day/week at the hospital.

Each year between April 1st and October 31st, LDH analyzes the water quality at beaches along the coast. Testing is done on a weekly basis to ensure the water meets the standards of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Testing is done for enterococci bacteria, and according to LDH, “these bacteria represent those commonly found in sewage pollution, and which could cause disease, infections or rashes."

There are several Southwest Louisiana beaches that made the list with an advisory, including Holly Beach sites, Lake Charles South Beach, and Rutherford beach. Constance Beach, and Lake Charles North Beach are listed as no advisory. See the partial list below.
