Grammy winning singer/song writer Lucinda Williams wrote a song about a former boyfriend and our city, entitled "Lake Charles".

Lucinda herself was born in Lake Charles on January 26, 1953.  Her father was a physician and they moved a lot when she was young, living everywhere from Mexico to Utah, and finally settled in Arkansas as her father accepted a position at the University of Arkansas.

She has won a total of 3 Grammy Awards from 15 nominations.  Williams has the amazing honor of being named Time magazine's "America's best songwriter" in 2002!  In 1998, she was also ranked #97 on VH1's "100 Greatest Women in Rock & Roll".

Below is her song, one that she still finds hard to sing today from all the memories and emotions that are attached to the song.  The Austin Chronicle did a great job breaking down the song and talking about it with Lucinda.
