Rental Chain Sued Over Use Of Computer Tracking Devices

A Wyoming couple is suing the Aaron’s rental chain, claiming the company provides computers that are able to track keystrokes, take screenshots and even take webcam pictures of renters using the computers at home. The couple says they had no idea that Aaron’s was using such tracking software until a manager came to their home and showed them a picture of one of them using the computer at their home. Computer privacy experts said firms like Aaron’s have the right to equip its computers with software to shut off devices remotely if customers stop paying their bills, but customers must be told if they are being monitored. Aaron’s says the lawsuit is meritless and that it respects its customers’ privacy.
