Elton John was planning a big tour to help launch his new CD The Diving Board, but yesterday, Elton's publicist announced that the tour would have to be cancelled. What happened?

Elton John has cancelled his summer tour after doctors diagnosed him with appendicitis. The 66-year-old was expected to perform at London’s Hyde Park on Friday. "Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates. To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans," his rep said in a statement. "He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013." John is expected to undergo surgery in the coming weeks. His new album, The Diving Board, is due out in September. It is first album of new solo material since 2006’s The Captain & The Kid.
