It's almost hard to believe we're already a month into the college football season.  One of the best things about college football is getting together with friends to watch the game.  (Well, for most folks anyway. Some of us actually prefer to watch the game at home... with sausage balls a friend made for us!)

Here in Louisiana, we take our game day and tail-gating food preparation seriously.  Jambalaya, gumbo, catfish, and... charcuterie boards. Charcuterie Boards? Your first question might be, "What the Sam Hill is a charcuterie board??"

According to Merriam-Webster, charcuterie is defined as:

: a delicatessen specializing in dressed meats and meat dishes also : the products sold in such a shop

So, a charcuterie board is a collection of cured meats, cheeses, nuts, fruits, breads, crackers, and vegetables, along with various sauces and dips, that are usually served on a wooden board or a stone.  Who doesn't love salt-cured meats on a tray with an assortment of cheeses?  We always just called it a meat tray.  But depending on where you are in the country, there will probably be different items on your board.

Below is a chart of the most popular items on charcuterie boards in all 50 states.  Some items are kind of... paté? Well, it is Alabama... paté AND gluten free crackers in Idaho... I'm not judging...  But in my humble opinion, Louisiana has some of the best items on our trays, including pecans and pepper jelly.
