The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) and CITGO are looking for volunteers to help restore sand dunes in Cameron Parish.

The 'Caring for Our Coast' grass planting event will be held from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Hurricane Rita.

This will be the third year that CRCL and CITGO have teamed up for the major beach restoration efforts. The grass planting project will help stabilize the Cameron shoreline and capture sand to build protective sand dunes.

Volunteers will plant a two mile stretch of Cameron shoreline with more than 28,000 plugs of native dune grass. Space is limited and the group will only be taking the first 100 volunteers. Transportation and supplies will be provided as well as a T-shirt.

In the case of rain, the event will be moved to Nov. 12, 2016.
