Vikings defeat Saints in Preseason Opener 34-25
The New Orleans Saints wanted last season's nightmare to end and with the start of the 2019 NFL preseason it seemed to help as they were able to get back to playing the game they love. While the preseason doesn't show much in regards to the regular season, it does show who is willing to step up and contribute. The Saints fell short in the first preseason game as the Vikings came away with the 34-25 victory.
Drew Brees didn't play a down but the majority of the starters played at least one drive and it was clear that Teddy Bridgewater is the #2 quarterback on this team. Bridgewater was 14 of 19 for 134 yards and 1 touchdown. Tight End Dan Arnold caught the lone touchdown pass from Bridgewater. The Saints Swiss Army knife Taysom Hill finished 8 of 14 for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Hill actually led the Saints in rushing as he finished with 45 yards. Alvin Kamara finished with the fewest yards although he didn't play very long. Lil' Jordan Humphrey had the catch and play of the game when he scored on a 33 yard catch from Hill. Humphrey finished with 42 yards receiving.
While much remains to be seen in how the rest of the preseason turns out, there were a few bright spots especially in Bridgewater's game. He showed that he could lead the team to scoring drives. Wil Lutz continued his great kicking game as he finished with 4 field goals. The Saints will travel to Los Angeles for the next preseason game when they face off against the Chargers.
