[VIDEO] Watch The Calcasieu Refining Plant Explosion In Lake Charles, Louisiana
LAKE CHARLES, LA: See the moment lightning struck a container at the Calcasieu Refining Plant and caused a massive explosion.
After the blast, a shelter-in-place was issued for 1.5 miles around the plant and was eventually extended to a 5-mile radius.
The plant's refined products include liquid propane gas, naphtha, kerosene, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and heavy vacuum gas oil.
It was a normal day at the Calcasieu Refining on Saturday, June 3rd, however, a storm was rolling in.
Later that day a lightning bolt struck a large tank containing 46,000 barrels of naphtha, an extremely flammable hydrocarbon product.
It caused a massive explosion incinerating the container within seconds.
The intense fire raged as the fight was on to extinguish the hellish blaze.
