His sub 0.7 deep snap times on punts ranked as one of the best in the FCS and he did not record one bad snap on punts or field goals. Lappin, a freshman from Melbourne, Australia, was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award as the nation’s top freshman in the FCS, finishing tied for 18th in the voting and was the only special teams player to be named one of the 25 finalists. He posted a record-breaking season for the Cowboys in 2024 by setting a single-season record for punting average with a 46.1 mark, nearly three yards further than the previous record of 43.8 (Alex Kjellsten in 2018 and Don Stump in 1979).His 51.2 average on six punts in a win at nationally-ranked Weber State ranked as the second-best single-game average in school history and three times this season he averaged 50 yards or more per punt. Also on the season, Lappin, who can punt with either foot, had 21 punts that went for 50 yards or more, three of 60 yards or further including a long of 68 yards, and had 19 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He totaled 2,811 punting yards on 61 boots. He ranked No. 4 in the NCAA in average while his 39.8 net averaged ranked 19th in the FCS.
