Tower of Power was founded in 1968 in Oakland, California. They've had a total of eight songs on the Billboard Top 100 charts during their long career. Their biggest commercial successes came between 1973 and 1974 with their best-known vocalist, Lenny Williams.

The Tower's horn section has been featured on many other singers' albums, like: Otis Redding, Aaron Neville, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Huey Lewis, Heart, Paula Abdul, and Santana.
