In February Calcasieu Parish School Board Superintendent, Karl Bruchhaus announced his retirement would officially go into effect on June 30, 2022. Immediately following Bruchhaus announcement the CPSB wasted no time in getting the word out to the community that they were actively searching for his replacement.

Within days, 7 strong applicants looking to fill the soon-to-be-vacant superintendent position submitted applications. They included two existing CPSB employees -

1.) CPSB Chief Operating Officer Robert Barrentine
2.) CPSB Chief Academic Officer Dr. Shannon Lafargue through their hats in for the 3.) East Baton Rouge Chief Academic Officer, Dr. C. Michael Robinson
4.) Victoria, TX, Assistant Superintendent Stanton Lawrence
5.) Mandeville, LA Superintendent Ret. Col. Dr. Corwin Robinson
6.) Baker, LA Alternative & Blended Learning Centers Principal Hamilton Brock
7.) Harriman, N.Y. Superintendent & Consultant Adam Taylor.

Now that the initial interviewing process is complete, the CPSB narrowed down the candidates to three finalists. These applicants will undergo a second and final interview and the top candidate will be hired for the CPSB Superintendent position, which will be announced on Thursday, May 26. Below are the three finalists and a brief description of their qualifications:

1.) Dr. Stanton Lawrence - Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in The Cooperative Superintendency Program. Dr. Lawrence is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Administration at Victoria Independent School in Victoria, Texas. With an over 20-year background in education. He has received various awards including Stellar Performer in Education from the St. Louis American Foundation. He is a member of the American Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of School Administrators, and various honor societies.

2.) Dr. Shannon LaFargue - Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans. Dr. LaFargue is currently the Chief Academic Officer at the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor at Lamar University with a 30-year background in education. Dr. LaFargue is equipped with many certifications and experience. He is a member of the Louisiana Association of School Executives, Louisiana High School Athletic Association, and the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, among others.

3.) Robert Barrentine - Master of Education from McNeese State University.
Barrentine is currently the Chief Operating Officer at the Calcasieu Parish School Board with an education background spanning more than 27 years, Barrentine possesses key skills and abilities such as being an interpersonal communicator, positive presenter, and decision-maker, among others. He is a member of the National Institute for School Leadership, Louisiana State Association of School Personnel Administrators, and Louisiana Association of Principals, among others.
