This McNeese Cowboy Fan Is Chomping At The Bit For Football Season
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Hello, my name is Mikey O, and I'm a McNeese football fan. The program has broken my heart a time or two (okay, maybe more than that), but blue and gold still run through my veins.
In fact, the Oleander household is a McNeese household. I'm a 2007 graduate of McNeese with a bachelor's in Mass Communicatons/Broadcast Journalism and my wife studied Special Education at the university as well. My son will be attending McNeese this fall and he'll be playing tuba in The Pride Of McNeese Marching Band. My daughter will be attending McNeese in a few years pursing a nursing degree.

I'm extremely excited about the triumphant return of Head Coach Matt Viator. Kudos to Athletic Director Heath Schroyer for having the vision of bringing back a proven winner and McNeese coaching legend to help return the football program to greatness.
Coach Viator brings back quite the Southland Conference resume to the Pokes: four SLC championships (2006–2007, 2009, 2015), and three times Southland Coach of the Year (2006–2007, 2015).

I'm a chronic homer when it comes to McNeese football. Every year, I'm that guy that is screaming to the mountain tops that this is the year the Cowboys make it back to the playoffs. Alas, that hasn't worked out too well for me or the program for the last handful of years.
In fact, McNeese Sports Insider, Jim Gazzolo, gave me the nickname "Mikey 12 - 0" because of my fandom. But this time I think it's different. We have a great coaching staff full of former Cowboys who love this team and university. We're primed to have change in fortunes this upcoming season.
Existing players and transfers will be learning a new offense; however, I believe we'll see a massive improvement this year. Coach Pec returns to keep the momentum going from a much-improved defense last season, and the staff has brought in some transfers that should make an immediate impact on opposing offenses.
