What a legend B.B. King was and always will be. Everyone knew that King had been ill lately, but he was just so much larger than life, such a total legend, that it seems he should live forever.

B.B. King was born, Riley B. King, on Sept. 16, 1925, on a tenant farm near Itta Bena, Mississippi, King was raised by his grandmother after his parents separated and his mother died. King  worked as a sharecropper and even picked cotton in his early childhood. It was from this impoverished upbringing in the Mississippi delta that his music was formed.

King made his first record back in 1951 and later, in 1971, he earned a Grammy for his amazing performance for his signature song, "The Thrill is Gone.'

Here's a great performance of that song from 1993
