Big news out of the big easy this morning as ESPN, New York Times, Yahoo Sports, and NBC Sports are reporting that the New Orleans Saints have signed quarterback Andy Dalton to a one-year deal to back up Jameis Winston.

Dalton started his career with the Bengals in 2011 where he was the starting quarterback from 2011 through 2019.  He was then traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he played as backup to Dak Prescott in 2020.

Dalton actually started a bunch of games for the Cowboys after Prescott was lost for the season with a leg injury. In 2021, Andy Dalton was released and ended up in Chicago playing for the Bears in 2021.

The 34-year-old veteran is now headed down South as reports are flooding in saying that Dalton and the Saints have agreed to a one-year contract worth three million dollars. New Head Coach Dennis Allen says that Dalton's role will be to be the backup for current saints starter Jameis Winston.

Allen also said that last year's backup quarterback Taysom Hill will now move into the role as a tight end for the black and gold and would not be considered a backup quarterback anymore with the team.

So there you go, new head coach Dennis Allen is making some big moves early in the year.  Experts are still predicting that the Saints plan on taking a quarterback with their first-round pick in the upcoming 2022 NFL draft.
