The New Head Coach For LSU Will Come From The NFL

Tiger fans across the nation were on pins and needles this weekend praying that Scott Woodward would announce who the new head football coach would be for LSU. He did not.

Woodward has promised the university, team, and fans a home run hire for the job. However, the only thing that the Tiger faithful has seen were the elite college football coaches either sign huge deals at their current schools or sign huge deals at other schools.

Names like Lincoln Riley, Jimbo Fisher, Billy Napier, James Franklin, Mel Tucker, and Dave Aranda can all be wiped off the board, so to speak.

New names that are gaining popularity with the media and fans are Brian Kelly from Notre Dame, Dabo Swinny from Clemson, Bill O'Brien from Alabama, and Mark Stoops from Kentucky. Looking on the surface it makes sense, these coaches could be looking for a new challenge of rebuilding a former powerhouse school and bringing it back to glory. Or maybe they feel they need to cement their legacy as a great college coach by coaching in the SEC.

However, I believe we haven't been given an announcement from Scott Woodward for a very simple reason. The coach was busy game planning and playing an NFL game this last weekend.

Former LSU running back Justin Vincent, the Director of Athletic Alumni Engagement at the Tiger Athletic Foundation, and co-host of Louisiana Sunday Kickoff (a FOX sports program) said that we will get that much needed announcement either Tuesday or Wednesday on his show. He actually already knows who the coach is, he mentioned on his show that he had to sign a non-disclosure agreement about it, but said he could tell us about the expected dates of the announcement.

What bigger way to hit a home run than for Woodward to snatch a premiere coach from the NFL? The word from some football insiders is that Matt Rhule is not enjoying the NFL and would like to return to the college ranks. Rhule would be a great hire for the Tigers. He brought a Baylor Bear program back from the dead and turned them into a national championship contender.

Rhule could also bring Joe Brady back down with him who's having way less success in the NFL than he did in 2019 with the Bayou Bengals. In fact, the Tigers' current offensive coordinator is Jake Peetz was on the Panthers' staff with Rhule in 2020 and would make a great position coach with the new coaching regime.

Coach Rhule has shown himself to be a winning college coach. Not all great college coaches are made for the NFL. Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, and Bobby Petrino all bombed in the NFL and returned to college without missing a step.

My gut tells me we're getting a coach from the NFL and Matt Rhule makes the most sense. He is proven and battle-tested in college and knows how to recruit.

If you watched the Alabama and Texas A&M games this year, you saw how hard the Tigers can compete when motivated. We still have an abundance of talent on this team, even with players entering the transfer portal, that a new coach with the tools that Matt Rhule posses could use to build a new glorious future for the program.
