The Houston Roughnecks Are Back For The 2023 XFL Season
Houston, Texas get ready for the reborn Houston Roughnecks football team as the XFL is gearing up for their big return in 2023.
The Roughnecks were the best team in the XFL before the pandemic caused the league to file for bankruptcy. It was such a shame because the XFL, brought back by former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, was an amazing on field product and it had great TV ratings.
When the assets of the company were being sold off in bankruptcy court Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, his ex-wife, and a sports management company bought the defunct league for reportedly $15 million.
Earlier this week the XFL announced the names of the teams and their host cities:
Here are the eight franchises and coaches for the 2023 XFL season:
- Arlington (Texas) Renegades - Bob Stoops
- D.C. Defenders - Reggie Barlow
- Houston Roughnecks - Wade Phillips
- Orlando Guardians - Terrell Buckley
- San Antonio Brahmas - Hines Ward
- Seattle Sea Dragons - Jim Haslett
- St. Louis Battlehawks - Anthony Becht
- Vegas Vipers - Rod Woodson
I love the decision to have Wade Phillips as the head coach of the Roughnecks. Not only does he have a great family history in coaching football, but the Phillips name will always be tied to football in Houston.
The Houston Roughnecks also announced that ticket prices will start at $20, which is a very family friendly price.
The team will continue to play their home games at TDECU Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston.
