The day after Christmas is a very busy day for most businesses. Let's be honest we've all received that one gift we just looked at and said "Aw thank you."

Some People say that a return policy is very important factor when deciding which retailer to shop. Some retailers have a no-questions-asked policy, while some have strict rules that make it very difficult. Based on the Consumer Reports’ 2019 Holiday Gift GuideIf you plan on returning unloved items here's what you need to know.

The Best Return Policies Include:

Nordstrom- Has a no formal return policy. No receipts required, no time limits, no original tags needed (except for special occasion dresses).

Bed Bath and Beyond- Employees will look up purchases made in the last year if you find yourself without a receipt. If the item can’t be found, you can get a refund for store credit at its current price, minus 20 percent.

JCPenney- With a receipt this company will accept your return and exchange at any time. They will not accept returns on appliances, furniture, fine jewelry, and electronics. Electronics require original tags or packaging.

Kohl's- They have no time limit on all purchases. If you do not have a receipt the store can look up prior purchases. Be aware of certain exceptions which include premium electronics. These items must be returned within 30 days in original packaging. If purchased items Nov. 1 through Dec. 25, you have until Jan. 31, 2019, to return them.

Zappos- Free shipping on all U.S. orders for up to a year. This items can only be returned if they are unworn and in their original packaging.

The Worst Return Policies Include: 

Kmart- With a receipt you will have 30 days for returns. You can exchange or get store credit for gift receipts. If your items were purchase Nov. 1 through Dec. 24 they can be returned through Jan. 31, 2019.

Best Buy- They have a 15-day window for returning most items, however If you join their My Best Buy Elite or My Best Buy Elite Plus rewards program you can get 30 to 45 days to make returns. The store requires proof of purchase and has a 15 percent restocking fee on certain items.

Gamestop- You get 30 days for a refund or exchange of unopened products, but you will only 7 days for all pre-owned products and tablets. If the product has been opened, you will only get an identical exchange within 30 days.

Apple- They only give you 14 days for a return or get a refund of your item. This includes items purchased online or in the store. If the product is more than $750, you have to wait 10 days for a refund check to be mailed to you. You will not be allowed to return items if you didn't purchase them directly from an Apple Store or Apple online.

Best advice is to make sure to not open the packaging, keep all receipts, check store policies/return time, and make sure to have some form of identification if necessary.
