Senator Bill Cassidy says Congress is working on another round of federal economic relief but feels the $600 a week federal unemployment benefit must be changed.
Governor John Bel Edwards said additional unemployment money from the federal government will be sent to Louisiana residents who qualify starting next week.
The labor market—and the economy overall—is improving, albeit gradually, with employers adding 236,000 jobs in February. That gain brought the unemployment rate down a few ticks from 7.9 percent to 7.7, its lowest point in four years.
