Did you know that almost half of teen drivers involved in a crash die? That is on statistic that we have to change. That's why the Louisiana State Police have designated October 19-25 has been declared National Teen Driver Safety Week.

Louisiana State Troopers see it all the time. People who do not wear seat belts and it cost them their lives. It has happened again this morning before daylight.

I spend a lot of time driving on I-10 and I see it everyday. Drivers who do not move over for emergency vehicles (or vehicles that have stopped in the emergency lane.) I also see drivers in the inside lane ride beside vehicles preventing them from moving over when needed. This is not just dangerous ... it is against the law in Louisiana.

Last year 63 deaths due to impaired drivers were investigated by the Louisiana State Police. Last Saturday a motorcyclist in Jeff Davis Parish was struck head on and killed by what was believed to be an impaired driver. With a holiday weekend this weekend ... we thought it was good time to remind you to be careful and to designate a driver.

This one is just weird.We received word from Louisiana State Police Troop D asking motorist to avoid LA 108 near LA 1133 due to a plane crash in the roadway.

There are two things that when I see I will notify law enforcement because they just infuriate me. One of them is someone throwing trash out of their vehicle. The other is someone driving with a small child not strapped in. If you are transporting small kids ... it is your responsibility to make sure they are safe. The Louisiana State Police are offering free help with that.

Operation 27 was a combined effort by the Louisiana State Police, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, the Lake Charles Police Department, Homeland Security, The Drug Enforcement Agency and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office. The arrest total stands at 24 now with more coming. We have a list of those who were busted for you.

State Trooper James Anderson is a regular at our studios. He keeps us informed on what Troop D is up to. While he was at the studios this morning I ask him if I could try out his radar gun. Here is the result.

Louisiana State Police are doing everything possible to keep travelers off  frozen roads. They are specifically trying to route traffic off a soon to be frozen I-10.

This is certainly not great driving weather. Wet roads are dangerous and even more dangerous when facing the rain and impaired drivers. Louisiana State Police Troop D can not do anything about the weather ; but they can remove impaired drivers from our roadways and that will be the goal of Saturday's checkpoint night.

This story seems to repeat with different names. This one is even more puzzling since he was previously arrested for vehicular homicide.

So there was Samuel Wade Dubois weaving down I-10 Saturday afternoon. Samuel is pretty good at weaving. He already had three DWI offenses and was operating a vehicle with an ignition interlock. He somehow got around the interlock. He did not avoid his fourth DWI.
