During the COVID-19 pandemic, a new condition known as maskne has been on the rise.

Maskne is a term used when a person's face breaks out from the frequent use of a face mask. When you wear a mask, it tends to create a moist, humid environment. As the moisture builds under your mask, it traps skin oils and sweat which leads to irritation, rash, and acne.

To prevent this from happening, it is recommended you wash your face several times a day with a cleanser and follow with moisturizer near the affected areas.

Also, let your masks dry completely after each use and wash cloth masks regularly to remove sweat and oils that may be trapped inside. Wearing makeup under your mask could cause maskne to be especially bad.

If you wear glasses and notice them fogging up when paired with a mask, here are a few steps that may help with antifogging.

Wash your glasses with soapy water immediately before wearing a face mask. Let your eyewear air dry or gently dry off the lenses with a soft tissue before putting them back on. The thought process is that a thin film from the soap will build on the lenses to lessen the effects of fogging. Try it out and let us know if it works.
