Stepmom Asks Photoshop Group to Remove Stepson From Family Photos
According to a post on Crunchy Mama and mirrored by reddit along with countless other sites, a mother recently asked a Photoshop Requests group to edit her stepson out of her family photos.
In her request, she asked, "Is there anyway [sic] y'all could remove the kid to the right in these pictures. He's my stepson and I love these pictures of us together but I also didn't get any good ones with just two without him. Also remove him from the full family pictures please. Thanks in advance"
She later revised her request, presumably due to the large amount of negative feedback her post was receiving.
"EDIT: I love my stepson but I do want some without him in them. I already posted these ones but I just want to have it both ways."
I have a stepson who came into my life when he was two years old. He turned thirteen last June, and I can't imagine my life without him in it. The idea of wanting to crop him out of family photos is something that would never even enter my thought process. I've always wanted him to be part of every part of my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Ever. (This is including his teenage years which, oh lawd help me, ain't gonna be easy, y'all.)
I've written about stepparenting before, and I stand by every word. When you marry someone with kids, their kids become your kids. You're marrying the children as much as you're marrying their mom or dad. It's a package deal, so if you're not even ready for their kids to appear in your family photos, you're definitely not ready to marry into that family.
The internet's reaction to this stepmom's request has been predictably harsh, and rightfully so. Some people just aren't cut out to be stepparents. This is not how you treat a child.
What do you think?
