It sounds like fake news, but it’s not: Marvel will meet Star WarsOr at least Marvel Comics will.

Granted, Marvel has been publishing Star Wars comics for a while. They did for years in the 1970s and 1980s, and they do again now, with ongoing series about many of the franchise’s greatest characters. But according to StarWars.com, something a little different is coming later this summer. Marvel Comics #1000, an issue designed to mark the 80th anniversary of the original Marvel Comics #1 from 1939, will feature an appearance from Star Wars:

StarWars.com is excited to reveal that the landmark comic celebrating 80 years of the House of Ideas will include a new, one-page Star Wars story written by Charles Soule (Poe Dameron) with art by Terry Dodson (Princess Leia). While details regarding the tale are still a secret, you can get a first look at one panel below.

Don’t expect to see Spider-Man high-fiving Uncle Ben Kenobi or anything like that; Marvel Comics #1000 is an anthology book with lots of short stories, of which the Star Wars story by Charles Soule and Terry Dodson is one. But stranger things have happened. Once upon a time the X-Men met the cast of Star Trek in a crossover comic. (In fact, the X-Men met two casts of Star Trek characters in comics.) And Marvel didn’t own Star Trek; they just had the rights to publish Star Trek comics at the time. What’s to stop them from doing something similar between Star Wars and the Marvel Universe? Given stuff like the Star Wars cast appearing in Marvel Comics #1000, it feels like it’s only a matter of time.
