Sports Illustrated may be bringing a mega-resort to south Mississippi that is unlike anything the Gulf Coast has seen before.

The proposed $410M development has plans that include themed restaurants, shopping, and "attractions that we've never seen" anywhere close to the Mississippi coast.

One of those attractions is said to be a crystal lagoon that seems to be centrally located in the middle of all of the action.

Speaking of action, all of the family-friendly attractions that Sports Illustrated plans to bring in are set to be spread out over 78 acres and located right off of I-10.

According to a report from The Advocate, the Sports Illustrated mega-resort is one of the first in the U.S. and will also feature three hotels—one of them "with 200 to 300 rooms."

The proposed resort would be built on what was supposed to be the site of a Gulf Coast Galleria Shopping Center in D'Iberville. The City Council voted unanimously in support of the project.

The D’Iberville City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted their support of Blue Water Beach — the working name of the resort — and agreed to to Issue Tax Increment Financing bonds to cover part of the cost of infrastructure improvements for the new development.

One of the developers noted the interstate location of the resort as one that will provide "access to major markets and people coming to the Gulf Coast."

Christopher Schroeder is the CEO of Experimental Ventures Hospitality—one of the developers involved in the planned project—and he believes that people are seeking out the types of activities and experiences that the Sports Illustrated resort aims to provide.

People are looking for experiences that allow them to be more active and participatory, and Sports Illustrated Resorts will create the ultimate immersive experiences for guests through the various hospitality categories and destinations we plan to enter

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
