SNAP Benefits Will Cease In Louisiana At End Of Month If Government Shutdown Continues
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Gov. Jeff Landry warned yesterday that SNAP benefits will stop for Louisiana residents at the end of this month if the federal government shutdown continues.
According to Landry, if the federal government is still closed and unfunded, SNAP cardholders will not be eligible for any new benefits on their cards as of November 1. You can spend any funds that are left over from earlier months.

Landry said in a press release:
SNAP benefits are paid for by the federal government in Washington, and we simply administer the program here in Louisiana. Without the funds, we cannot provide the benefits.

Why Are SNAP Benefits Stopping In Louisiana?
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, around 16 percent on Louisiana residents depend on SNAP benefits to feed their families.
This week, the Louisiana Department of Health, which is in charge of the state's SNAP program, will start informing beneficiaries that their cards would not be updated with November benefits until the federal government reopens.
